  • Reading the Muslim Mind By Dr. Hassan Hathout

    • Publisher: American Trust Publications; 7th Edition edition (June 1, 2005)
    • Language: English
    • ISBN-10: 0892591579
    • ISBN-13: 978-0892591572
    • Product Dimensions: 6 x 0.4 x 9 inches

Once in a while a book comes along that can reshape the thinking of the world. One person at a time. Reading the Muslim Mind is such a book. Dr. Hassan Hathout starts out from a simple observation a lifetime of biculturalism (the Egyptian-born physician initially resided in Britain and has lived in the U.S. for more than a decade) leads him to note that Islam is widely known in the West for what it is not.

This encyclopedic personality (doctor of medicine, thinker, speaker, poet) sets out to guide the reader on a comprehensive tour through Islam. For this voyage, he supplies a keen and lucid anatomy of the Islamic life. He also provides, with incisive clarity, the inner guidebook; he uncovers the tracing of the mind at work behind the practice, the spirit behind the letter, the rationale and the Ultimate Reason, God.

For non-Muslims and those who follow what Dr. Hathout aptly calls the Judeo-Christian-Islamic world tradition at large, the trip proves illuminating and thought-provoking. For Muslims, it will re-anchor their faith and offer vital and timely answers to up-to-the-minute dilemmas of life in the new millennium.

Reading the Muslim Mind addresses key issues of our time, from the Islamic perspective. Dr. Hathout, in this wise, warm and inspiring work, is speaking to the audience of humankind in the Age of Selfishness, Microtheism, and Godlessness. In his clarion call of hope, the author maintains that when a minimum critical mass turns to understanding and cooperation, real change is possible.

To be known for what one really is, is nothing less than a basic human right, Dr. Hathout notes. Here, then, is Islam as it really is, and the world as it really can be.

How was matter and time created from nothingness? What does the Big Bang theory signify about the creation of the universe? How can a time slice of centuries in our view be a single moment in another dimension? What is the parallelism between Einstein’s Theory of Relativity and the Qur’anic verses. All of these questions are answered in this book where it is described that time and matter are not absolute truths but mere perceptions.

  • Islam in Focus

    By Hannudah Abdal’Ati

One of the best known and widely distributed general information books about Islam. The author directs his message to both Muslims and non-Muslims in a style that appeals positively to many Westerners. Islam in Focus was written toward the end of the author’s life and reflects a strong ethical approach to Islam. As a graduate of Al Azhar University in Cairo he also studied and lived in North America. This combination enabled him to become a well respected lecturer and scholar and serves him well in this book.

He talks about the knowledge of God and belief in Him constitute the very foundation of Islam. The subject is so vital it calls for a thorough and clear discussion. For the purpose of clarity some simple demonstrations will be used. These may well appear boring or too simple for those who already know something about the subject. Such informed persons are invited to have patience and show appreciation of the importance of the matter. There are individuals who like to doubt the concept of God in the name of science, or because of a lack of experience and understanding. The attitude of such people reflects an uneasy mentality, although they claim to be learned intellectuals. My concern will not be with their claims; rather it will be with their true position. This book is easy read and very straight forward and it’s highly recommended.
